2.) APPEAL FOR MESSAGES OF SUPPORT FROM ASIAN PEACE GROUPS
As I'm sure you all know May marks the first anniversaries of both the
Indian and Pakistan nuclear tests. Information has reached us that the
Pakistani government in particular is planning events across the country in
support of the tests and potentially a missile launch on the actual
anniversary.
To ensure that voices against the tests are heard the UK based Campaign for
Nuclear Disarmament are holding a protest event in London on May 28th. Our
message will be that all nuclear weapons states must disarm. We are inviting
supporters of global nuclear disarmament from across the Indian and
Pakistani communities in England to attend and join other peace activists.
We know that across Asia groups and individuals are organising and
protesting against their countries going down the nuclear path. In the UK
the media coverage to date has focused on the seemingly high level of
support within India and Pakistan for nuclear weapons. We want to help
counter this image by reading out messages of support from representatives
of the peace/anti nuclear movements in both India and Pakistan.
If you are able to attend the event (details below) or send a message of
support to be read out at the event we would be very grateful.
Other ways you can help:
1) If you are willing to talk to the UK media over the telephone and
represent opposition to nuclear weapons within the country then email me
your name, details (emails, telephone, fax) how you are involved within the
anti-nuclear movement and confirming what times you are available on the
28th May.
2) Send relevant facts and figures - for instance opinion poll results,
information about any known environmental or health effects of the testing
or anything you feel is useful in arguing the case against nuclear weapons
in your region.

In Peace,

Louise Edge, CND Campaigns Team
