2/10: Domestic Workers United Albany Lobby Day (Everyone Welcomed!)
Great News and Head Count for February 10
Dear Friends,
It's that time again! We're trying to get a head count for our big day on
February 10. Please send an email to domesticworkersunited at gmail.com, and
confirm your numbers or your presence for February 10. This week, we will be
setting up the teams for legislative visits, so it would be great to have early
confirmations.
And, we just got word that the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights is on the
agenda for the Labor Committee this Wednesday, February 4! Thanks to all of your
work, it has the most co-sponsors of all the bills on the agenda. Another
huge step forward for our Bill of Rights. If the bill is passed at the Labor
Committee meeting, it will have made it through a major hurdle, and now it will
be up to Speaker Silver to bring the Bill to the floor for a vote in the
Assembly.
Our first day of "Canvassing for Workers Rights" in the Lower East Side took
place yesterday, with over 100 constituent letters supporting domestic
workers rights and all workers' rights to organize collected in Silver's district.
Thanks to all of you who participated! If you're interested in participating
in the next round, contact Joyce at joycedwu at gmail.com.
In the Senate, we have several good prospects for Senate sponsors. On
February 10, one of them will step forward as our new champion in the Senate. Be
there, to help push our new champion to move quickly. Now is the time to get
on the bus, we need your voice. RSVP today.
And, if you're interested in attending a training to prepare for Albany Day,
there's one scheduled for Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm at NYU School of Law,
Furman Hall, 245 Sullivan Street 6th Fl, between Washington Square South and
West 3rd Street. RSVP for that as well at domesticworkersunited at gmail.com.
