Stop Modern Day Slavery
Breaking the Web of Human Trafficking

Friday, April 13, 2007
8:30 A.M to 5:15 P.M.
Hunter College (Brookdale Campus)
425 East 25th Street , New York, New York, 10010

The Unitarian Universalist United Nations Office (UU-UNO) 2007 Annual
Intergenerational Spring Seminar, "Stop Modern Day Slavery: Breaking the Web of
Human Trafficking," will address a critical issue facing people across the
world and in our own backyard. Former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan
has stated, "The trafficking of persons, particularly women and children,
for forced and exploitative labor, including for sexual exploitation, is one of
the most egregious violations of human rights which the United Nations now
confronts." This year's intergenerational seminar aims to educate, raise
awareness, and create avenues for actions and advocacy to fight this deplorable
abuse of human rights.
The Unitarian Universalist United Nations Office, in collaboration with the
Americans For Informed Democracy (AID), is now accepting applications for 24
selected students for their intergenerational spring seminar "Stop Modern Day
Slavery: Breaking the Web of Human Trafficking," in New York City.
Registration costs will be waived for the selected AID participants, but there will be
a modest cost for lunch. The seminar will take place at Hunter College
(Brookdale Campus) on Friday, April 13th, 2007 in New York City.
This is a working seminar, and we look forward to your complete
participation. Our day will be full, and while it will be fun in its own right, it does
not allow time for general sightseeing. Though we encourage all of our
participants to take advantage of the seminar's location, we urge that you invest
in extra time for exploring New York City.
More information on the confirmed speakers and the general structure of the
seminar will follow later. For general information about UU-UNO organization
mission and goals, please visit our web site at _www.uu-uno.org_
(http://www.uu-uno.org/)
To apply for "Stop Modern Day Slavery: Breaking the Web of Human
Trafficking," please send a copy of your resume (with your name in the subject line)
together with a 250-word essay on the topic "Why Breaking the Web of Human
Trafficking is Important to Me" to Luanda Domi at _ldomi at uu-uno.org_
(mailto:ldomi at uu-uno.org) .
