Inspector McCarthy of the 114th Precinct has now repeatedly
threatened to try to stop this Saturday's march against Israeli aggression.
The ad hoc Coalition for Justice in the Middle East will have a
militant and peaceful sidewalk march among Astoria shoppers. We will
also send a positive message to our neighbors, local Arab and Muslim
merchants and residents of Steinway Street, folks needing support
during the terrible times brought upon their families by a violently
adventurist U.S. empire gone mad.
We need your help. Video teams, also less trained amateur
videographers, even folks holding grandma's Super8 millimeter film
camera, also scores of disposable camera users -- anyone can help
make this rogue precinct obey what remains of the law. Anyone can
help keep NYPD wolf packs from chewing up civil liberties and setting
a terrifyingly dangerous precedent to end peaceful protest in the boroughs.
My personal speculation, after the city suffered a recent setback in
repressing Manhattanites and activists, they decided to wage their
War On Dissent instead against the more vulnerable residents of the
boroughs...apparently hoping that remaining progressive Manhattanites
would sell out workers of color. If so, then Saturday could prove to
be an historic foothold of nothing less than light fascism in
NYC. We may look back on Saturday as the day the city advanced their
campaign to end U.S. street protest.
Or Saturday could instead turn out to be Bloomberg's Stalingrad.
Saturday August 26 starting 2:00 pm at Athens Square, 30th Avenue and
30th Street in Astoria, N to 30th Ave. and walk one block west; or
take G, R to Steinway and walk ten blocks northwest.
