Hi!
I'm am currently writing a suite for jazz quartet entitled "Mother Tongue: Do You Speak Indian."

I am looking for people who speak:
Kannada
Gujarati
Marathi
Konkani
Oriya
Kashmiri
Assamese
Manipuri
Tamil
Malayalam
Punjabi
Telegu
Hindi

I wish to record you speaking a few specific phrases in order to write music based on specific attributes of said languages. I'm hoping to make these recording during the week of 4/26. It should only take a few minutes of your time.

Please do not hesitate to reply if you feel that you don't speak one or more of these languages "well" or if one of these language is your second, third, or even fourth language. I believe that these are in fact some of the realities of speaking an Indian language in America that I wish to portray in this piece.

I'm also looking for folk songs, children's songs, and even film music (except for Hindi) in the above languages. I am not looking for any classical music. Any recordings that you may have would be most helpful or perhaps you would be willing to let me record you singing.

Please reply to rudreshm at earthlink.net

Thanks so much for your help!

Sincerely,
Rudresh K. Mahanthappa
