1. Bush's Immigration Reform: Behind the News
2. The World Social Forum: Our Correspondent in Mumbai
3. Reelpolitics: Day-long event with Third World Newsreel
*********************************************************
Tonight on Asia Pacific Forum, we're going to look behind the news of George
Bush's new immigration reform. It's been a week since the president
announced his initiative to provide temporary worker visas to millions of
undocumented immigrant workers. And during the past week, we've heard howls
of protest from conservative opponents of immigration, but also cheering
from Big Business and an endorsement from Mexican president Fox. How should
progressives view the plan? We'll talk to CONGRESSMAN MIKE HONDA, chair of
the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, and immigrant advocate
CATHERINE TACTAQUIN, about the politics of the president's proposal.
We'll also hear from APF collective member SUJANI REDDY, who is in Mumbai,
India for the World Social Forum, set to begin this week. This is the fourth
World Social Forum and the first held in Asia.
Finally tonight, we'll talk to filmmaker JASON DASILVA, whose documentary
"Lest We Forget" examines the impact of 9/11 on immigrants in the U.S. And
we'll be joined by J.T. TAKAGI of Third World Newsreel, who will tell us
about reelpolitics, an upcoming day of films and panels looking at dissent
in America and beyond, where "Lest We Forget" will be shown.
