40 Days Since Passing: A Tribute to Edward Said

November 1, 1935 – September 25, 2003

It is customary among Arabs, Muslims and Christians
alike, to mark the 'arbeen (40th day) of the passing
of a loved one, a family member, a relative, or a
friend. Traveling thousands of miles away from home,
this cultural practice is reproduced by Arab
communities in the diaspora. In the spirit of his
exile and the persistence of his convictions, we
remember Edward Said--a friend, an educator, a mentor,
a cultural critic, a public intellectual, and an
advocate for the humanity and dignity for all.

Please Join us at NYU Remembers Edward Said: An
Evening of Reading, Spoken Word, Music, and
Reflections by/About Edward Said.


MONDAY NOVEMBER 3, 2003

Tishman Auditorium at the NYU Law School
(entrance at MacDougal between West 3rd & 4th - subway
A,C,E or V,F to West 4th)

Tishman auditorium is where Edward Said last spoke at
the NYU conference on "What Now? A Debate on America
and the World" in May 2003.
